Our question to Lucas Morel, Associate Professor of Politics, Washington and Lee University while speaking at the Heritage Foundation on Black History:

 

“Radcliffe Lewis, Radcliffe Lewis Enterprises:

 

[Mr. Morel], You advocate one America, but your discourse appears to be one directional.  What I am missing in your discourse is a compelling reason why the White Anglo-Saxon should strive to integrate fully with the Way and nature of those with highly melaninated skin and hair.  Should the Anglo-Saxon strive to have a progeny that is genetically infused with Blackness?

 

Given the legacy and the vast profits attained today by Bill Gates and George Bush, and on the other side of the river, the Marquise of Cholmondeley with his 100,000 acres of Kenyan land, and Obama, the Kenyan son of a white woman, what is the profit for white men, to strive to be one and equal to the Negroes that have been thoroughly vanquished by European overlords?

 

Are you advocating that I should aspire to have little brown children with straight hair and hazel eyes instead of my ebony tone running around?

Should the rich white man aspire to marry the poor, ebony, waitress?”

 

 

Response

Matthew Spalding, Heritage Foundation, the conference host, and Morel’s own white overlord rescued him from his own responsive blubber, and that was the final question for the day, the conference ending three minutes early.

Lets Just Ignore the Rape Victim You'all

I just came from a function hosted at the Center for American Progress, introducing a book written apparently by two women; Nina Hachingian and Mona Sutphen.  The book is called “The Next American Century.”  They wish to develop a challenge to the G-8 Summits by introducing an “informal” group of countries that they call the “pivotal powers”: The United States, Russia, The EU, China, Japan, and India, and have them meet perhaps twice per year to discuss world affairs.  They believe that our policy of “exporting democracy” is wrong, and they point to Sudan and suggest we should just ignore the fact the Sudan is violating human rights – that we have no credibility when we try to impose our policies on China, India, and Europe doing business with the Sudanese, while at the same time we trade for oil with Saudi Arabia.  Then I began to fall asleep and as soon as the white man beside me decided he would go, I woke up and took that as my cue to leave, he having already cleared the path by having the other whites and 'blancos' beside him bend their knees so he could pass.  They all looked startled when I ran out the room.  I mean, what’s the point listening to that lot?

They developed ideas completely ignorant of my black skin. I thought about the general hue of the ruling classes of the six countries involved, the US – Blancos, Russia – white, EU – white, China – Asian, Japan – Asian, and India – Indian white, and realized there is no difference there, be it the Security Council, the G-8, or their imagined C-6, the same thing, a bunch of people with the back of their hands and the tops of their feet having the same color as the bottom of their feet, and they want to develop world forums that keep discussing world affairs without me in the room.  Apparently I am to ignore the black so-called Muslim boys in Sudan who acquiesce to being labels as mere janjaweeds, who keep running all over the place there looking at Sudanese women and girls and saying, “You are so black!”, and then raping them and throwing their babies alive into blazing fires.  Frankly, the mere fact that I even mention this event is too much attention to those two women and their funny book, its actually more appropriate to just ignore them.  The sandwiches weren’t all that good either. 

 

Darn – it took me all of 14 minutes to write this and get it up.

Observers Comments

McCain, the Republican Anti-Opposition Master Strategist

I attended the CATO Institute’s conference today titled: “McCain: The Myth of a Maverick”.  The conference centered around a book written by Matt Welch, Editor in Chief of Reason Magazine.  CATO also provided a commentator, Lance Tarrance, Jr., former Senior Strategist of McCain for President.  As we posted in this Blog only yesterday, INTELLEXAE would try to get CATO’s scope on whether McCain was a true maverick or a conformist.  The moderator in his opening address stated that he received a telephone call recently from someone who thanked him for scheduling the conference and conveyed the intent to vote for McCain to be president, to the apparent chagrin of the moderator.  As the conference progressed, I was able to ask a question as follows:

The Question

“Mr. Tarrance, I have casually observed McCain over the years and he appears to change his rhetoric but not his position.  I will take just three issues:

On the issue of the Surge, first he was for it, then against it, but we ended up with the Surge;

On the issue of Immigration, first he was for Immigration, then against immigration, but we now have 12 million illegal immigrants; and

On the issue of the confederate flag, we know the confederate has been an issue for Black Americans, first he appears to be for it, then against it but we still have symbols of the confederate flag on the flags of some states, including South Carolina.

Given this change of position on his part resulting in the Republican mandate getting through, why should I not now consider that McCain is nothing more than the  Republican Party’s anti opposition master strategist; the last resort specialist who knows how to get the Republican mandate through by giving the appearance that he considers other options but in the end never does?

 

Lance Tarrance’s response was rather abrupt.  As soon as I relinquished the microphone he responded,

            “It is good that you wrote it (the question) down so you could ask me; why don’t you vote for Ron Paul?”

In his answer, Matt Welch indicated that McCain could look you in the eye and tell you that something that is not true is true.  He also said “you must never underestimate the power of repetition”. 

 

Apparently in his rhetoric, McCain keeps repeating that he is a “straight talker”.  My guess however is that he is a rhetoric spinner that will tunnel us all right back into the Republican mandate of war at all costs; something that any sensible person American and the rest of the world is trying so hard to get away from.

On the Horizon

Events around town for the second week of January 2008.

 

McCain

The CATO Institute will host an event this week regarding Senator and Presidential Candidate McCain. McCain has portrayed himself as a maverick in the field of politics, an insider who apparently stands out in the crowd of conformists.  Is this really so or is he just a shrewd conformist? – That is the question we seek to explore.  We hope to attend CATO’s book forum on “McCain: The Myth of a Maverick” to get their scope on the issue.

 

Asian Markets

From the AESEAN nations to China, the nations of the east are very much on the rise.  Regardless on where you are on the planet or the socio-economic spectrum for that matter it is simply not wise now to ignore the dynamic economic and social implications of these nations – their impact on world trade and population distribution.  The Johns Hopkins University will host a conference on January 9th regarding the economic cooperation programs of the nations of the east.  We hope to attend to get the scoop on what it is that the JHU community wishes to confer upon its eventual alumni in relation the perspectives that they should pay attention to regarding Central Asia.

 

The US Economy

We were recently asked questions about the economic forecast of the United States, particularly as the economy may affect micro-investors.  The Brookings Institute will host a conference addressing the prospects for stimulating the U. S. Economy this week.  The information provided should assist in developing an accurate forecast of the economy.  We will attend the function to do just that, and if possible raise questions as to the economic forecast of the United States perchance a Democratic candidate prevails in the upcoming presidential elections. 

 

The Middle East

The middle east (as usual) is in a state of turmoil, and we observe that with the recent ascent of Barak Obama as the Democratic front runner in the election campaigns, that, timely, Pakistan has announced that it will not allow military soldiers from the United States to pursue terrorists in that country.  (The reader may recall that Obama once indicated that were he to become president he would be in favor of sending troops into Pakistan).  At the same time, another nation in the middle east that is very much like Pakistant – Bangladesh has its own sentiments about Westernism.  The Hudson Institute will host a discussion focusing on Bangladesh and its apparent swing (in their view) towards what that institute considers to be “radicalism”.  We may attend this event to gain insight into Hudson’s viewpoint.

 

The US Economy Again

A broader look at the issues of the economy may be observed from looking at the basis of the American economic system through the eyes of history.  From its title “The Mind of the Market:  The Case for Capitalism from an Evolutionary Perspective” the CATO Institute appears to promise to address this viewpoint in that manner.  We have been invited to attend this conference and have accepted in that light.

Notables for 17 DEC 2007 - AIDS THE MASTER PLAN

Many times as I am doing general research I come across information that is worth reporting or repeating, and often I do not because I take into consideration such things as copyrights and whether or not people are ready to consider what is being discussed.  But many times I find myself urged to report and display the information irrespective of such considerations because of their paramount impact on all of us and the need to distribute that information for the greater good.  Consider (Dr) Boyd’s report on AIDS which is wreaking havoc on the Black community. 

 

 

 Many do now wish to hear Boyd Graves; and you will not find his name in Wikipedia.com. 

 

Below is a timeline on his Website (http://www.boydgraves.com/timeline/) regarding the development of AIDS.  I just don't think there is a more practical way to introduce to you why some of us question the current policies and related education / miseducation disseminated regarding AIDS.

 

Just as I need to, I urge you to consider the timeline and visit his Website for more information.  As you do, ask yourself, just exactly what else do people of other races have up their sleeves for your Black children…and…Is it fair?

The History of the Development of AIDS
Chapter Excerpt from “State Origin: The Evidence of the Laboratory Birth of AIDS”

The true history of the origin of AIDS can be traced throughout the 20th Century and back to 1878. On April 29 of that year the United States passed a “FEDERAL QUARANTINE ACT”.

The United States began a significant effort to investigate “causes” of epidemic diseases. In 1887, the effort was enhanced with the mandate of the U.S. “LABORATORY OF HYGIENE”. This lab was run by Dr. Joseph J. Kinyoun, a deep rooted-racist, who served the eugenics movement with dedication.

Two years later, 1889, we were able to identify “mycoplasmas”, a transmissible agent, that is now found at the heart of human diseases, including (AIDS) HIV.

In 1893, we strengthened the Federal Quarantine Act and suddenly there was an explosion of polio.

In 1898, we knew we could use mycoplasma to cause epidemics, because we were able to do so in cattle, and we saw it in tobacco plants.

In 1899, the U.S. Congress began investigating “leprosy in the United States”.

In 1902, We organized a “Station for Experimental Evolution” and we were able to identify diseases of an ethnic nature.

In 1904, we used mycoplasma to cause an epidemic in horses.

In 1910, we used mycoplasma to cause an epidemic in fowl/birds.

In 1917, we formed the “Federation of the American Society for Experimental Biology” (FASEB).

In 1918, the influenza virus killed millions of unsuspecting. It was a flu virus modified with a bird mycoplasma for which human primates had no “acquired immunity”.

In 1921, lead eugenics philosopher, Betrand Russell, publicly supported the “necessity for “organized” plagues” against the Black population.

In 1931, we secretly tested African Americans and we tested AIDS in sheep.

In 1935, we learned we could crystallize the tobacco mycoplasma, and it would remain infectious.

In 1943, we officially began our bio-warfare program. Shortly thereafter, we were finding our way to New Guinea to study mycoplasma in humans.

In 1945, we witnessed the greatest influx of foreign scientists in history into the U.S. biological program. Operation Paperclip will live in infamy as one of the darkest programs of a twisted parallel government fixated on genocide.

In 1946, the United States Navy hired Dr. Earl Traub, a notorious racist biologist.
A May appropriations hearing confirms the existence of a “secret” biological weapon.

In 1948, we know that the United States confirmed the endorsement of “devising a scheme” in which to address the issue of overpopulation in certain racial groups. State Department’s George McKennan’s memo will forever illuminate the eugenics mendacity necessary for genocide of millions of innocent people.

In 1949, Dr. Bjorn Sigurdsson isolates the VISNA virus. Visna is man made and shares some “unique DNA” with HIV. See, Proceedings of the United States, NAS, Vol. 92, pp. 3283 - 7, (April 11, 1995).

In 1951, we now know our government conducted its first virus attack on African Americans. Crates in Pennsylvania were tainted to see how many Negro crate handlers in Virginia would acquire the placebo virus.. They were also experimentally infecting sheep and goats. According to author Eva Snead, they also held their first world conference on an AIDS-like virus.

In 1954, Dr. Bjorn Sigurdsson publishes his first paper on Visna virus and establishes himself as the “Grandfather of the AIDS virus.” He will encounter competition from Dr. Carlton Gajdusek.

In 1955, they were able to artificially assemble the tobacco mosaic virus. Mycoplasmas will forever be at the heart of the U.S. biological warfare program

In 1957, future U.S. president, Rep Gerald Ford and others gave the U.S. Pentagon permission to aggressively deploy offensive biological agents. There are no recorded cases of AIDS prior to the 1957 creation of “Special Operation-X.” (The SOX) program served as the immediate prototype program for the Special Virus program to begin in 1962.

By 1960, Nikita Kruschev had been let in on the biological weapon. His 1960 statement will long reflect the arrogance of the secret blend of communism and democracy. The two countries would go to a November 1972 agreement to cull the Black Population.

In 1961, scientist Haldor Thomar publishes that viruses cause cancer. In 1995, he and Carlton Gajdusek informed the National Academy of Sciences that “the study of visna in sheep would be the best test for candidate anti-HIV drugs.”

In 1962, under the cover of cancer research, the United States charts a path to commit premeditated murder, the “Special Virus” program begins on February 12th. Dr. Len Hayflick sets up a U.S. mycoplasma laboratory at Stanford University. Many believe the “Special Virus” program began in November 1961 with a Phizer contract.

Beginning in 1963 and for every year thereafter, the “Special Virus” program conducted annual progress reviews at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. The annual meetings are representative of the aggressive nature in which the United States pursued the development of AIDS.

In 1964, the United States Congress gave full support for the leukemia/lymphoma (AIDS) virus research.

In 1967, the National Academy of Sciences launched a full scale assault on Africa. The CIA (Technical Services Division) acknowledged its secret inoculator program.

In 1969, Fort Detrick told world scientists and the Pentagon asked for more money, they knew they could make AIDS. Nixon’s July 18 secret memo to Congress on “Overpopulation” serves as the start of the paper trail of the AIDS Holocaust.

In 1970, President Nixon signed PL91-213 and John D. Rockefeller, III became the “Population Czar.” Nixon’s August 10 National Security Memo leaves no doubt as to the genocidal nature of depopulation.

In 1971, Progress Report #8 is issued. The flowchart (pg. 61) will forever resolve the true laboratory birth origin of AIDS. Eventually the Special Virus program will issue 15 reports and over 20,000 scientific papers. The flowchart links every scientific paper, medical experiment and U.S. contract. The flowchart would remain “missing” until 1999. World scientists were stunned. The flowchart will gain in significance throughout the 21st Century. It is also clear the experiments conducted under Phase IV-A of the flowchart are our best route to better therapy and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS. The first sixty pages of progress report #8 of the Special Virus program prove conclusively the specific goal of the program. By June 1977, the Special Virus program had produced 15, 000 gallons of AIDS. The AIDS virus was attached as complement to vaccines sent to Africa and Manhattan. However, because of the thoroughness of authors, like Dr. Robert E. Lee, we also learn the Stanford Mycoplasma Laboratory issues one of the first papers with AIDS in the title. “Viral Infections in Man Associated with Acquired Immunological Deficiency States.” The primary scientist, Dr. Thomas Merigan, was a “consultant” to the Special Virus program.

Progress Report # 8 at 104 - 106 proves Dr. Robert Gallo was secretly working on the development of AIDS with full support of the sector of the U.S. government that seeks to kill its citizens. Dr. Gallo can not explain why he excluded his role as a “project officer” for the Special Virus program from his biographical book. Dr. Gallo’s early work and discoveries will finally be viewed in relation to the flowchart. We now know where every experiment fits into the flowchart. The “research logic” is irrefutable evidence of a federal “Manhattan-style project” to develop a “contagious” cancer that “selectively” kills. Dr. Gallo’s 1971 paper is identical to his 1984 AIDS announcement.

Progress Report #8 at 273 - 286 proves we gave AIDS to monkeys. Since 1962, the United States and Dr. Robert Gallo have been inoculating monkeys and re-releasing them back into the wild. Thus, even government scientists are baffled that both HIV-1 and HIV-II would “suddenly emerge” from two distinct monkey ancestral relatives during the last 100 years. A 1999 Japanese study will ultimately prove the Man to Monkey origin of Monkey AIDS. The monkey experiments summary definitively proves Monkey AIDS is also man-made.

In 1972, the United States and the Soviet Union entered into a biological agreement that would signal the death knell for the Black Population. The 1972 agreement for collaboration and cooperation in the development of offensive biological agents is still U. S. policy.

In 1973, we find that world scientist, Garth Nicolson reports on his project, “Role of the Cell Surface in Escape From Immunological Surveillance.” His report is accompanied by seven published papers. Dr. Nicolson worked in conjunction with the Special Virus program from 1972 until 1978. Dr. Nicolson is considered by some to be Dr. Gallo’s “West Coast” counterpart. It is strongly held that because of Dr. Nicolson, Dr. Robert Gallo and Dr. Luc Montagnier would secretly meet in Southern California to coordinate what they would and would not say about the special virus development program.

In 1974, Furher Henry Kissinger releases his NSSM-200 (U.S. Plan to Address Overpopulation). It is the only issue of discussion at the World Population Conference in Bucharest, Romania. The men in the shadows had won, the whole world agrees to secretly cull Africa’s population. Today it is Africa and other undesirables. Tomorrow it may be you.

In 1975, President Gerald Ford signs National Security Defense Memorandum #314. The United States implements the Kissinger NSSM-200.

In 1976, the United States issues Progress Report #13 of the Special Virus program. The report proves the United States had various international agreements with the Russians, Germans, British, French, Canadians and Japanese. The plot to kill Black people has wide international support. In March, the Special Virus began production of the AIDS virus, by June 1977, the program will have produced 15,000 gallons of AIDS. President Jimmy Carter allows for the continuation of the secret plan to cull the Black Population.

In 1977, Dr. Robert Gallo and the top Soviet Scientists meet to discuss the proliferation of the 15,000 gallons of AIDS. They attach AIDS as complement to the Small pox vaccine for Africa, and the “experimental” hepatitis B vaccine for Manhattan. According to authors June Goodfield and Alan Cantwell, it is Batch #751 that was administered in New York to thousands of innocent people. This government will never be able to repay the people for the social rape, humiliation and out right prejudice people with HIV/AIDS face on a daily basis. The men in the shadows of the AIDS curtain accurately calculated that you would not care if only Blacks and gays are dying. In fact you don’t care that nearly a half million Gulf War veterans are encumbered with something contagious. Soon there will be no more Black people and a confused military, older White people will start suddenly dying and you still won’t get it. Be here now for us, give us a chance to be there for you.

Suddenly, just as President Nixon had predicted, there was explosive death. On November 4, 1999, the U.S. White House announced,.... “Within a period as short as five years, all new infections of HIV in the United States will be African American....” At some point our experts must be allowed to begin the interface process of allowing the history of this virus program to count. It is ludicrous and preposterous to fail to review the U.S. virus program in which to elucidate the etiology of AIDS.

More of the history of the secret virus program can be found in the archives of Dr. John B. Moloney. A review of the files under Dr. Moloney’s name would further pinpoint additional dates and records consistent with one of the greatest hunts, capture and proliferation of disease in the history of the human race. We have found the missing link. It is the guts of the research logic of a federal program that seeks to kill. We have found a curtain of AIDS. We can identify some of the people who work in the shadows of the curtain. Dr. Robert Gallo and Dr. Garth Nicolson must lead us in review. In light of the attack mechanisms available in which to inhibit AIDS, it is time that not another person be stricken with this relic, synthetic mycoplasma chimera.

Help those of us who are still here to realize full and contributory lives. We are all one people.

On September 28, 1998 I filed suit against the United States for the “creation”, “production” and “proliferation” of AIDS. On November 7, 2000, the appeals court agreed with the lower court and held AIDS bioengineering as “frivolous.” The world continues to wait for the court to rule on the resubmitted issues. The court can not continue to simply brush aside our experts and the government’s flowchart.

I have been asked to give my perspective with regard to the federal program MK-NAOMI . MK-NAOMI is the code for the development of AIDS. The “MK” portion stands for the two co-authors of the AIDS virus, Robert Manaker and Paul Kotin. The “NAOMI” portion stands for “Negroes are Only Momentary Individuals.” The U.S. government continues to orchestrate silence from the very top echelons of the Congress and military. At present there is no accountability. The good people will ultimately create a tsunami of public outrage. We can not allow the state an autocratic right to govern outside of the Constitution. Our society is structured to hide crimes committed by the state, while punishing citizens for minor indiscretions. Their strategy focuses on the general confusion they can create via manipulation of the media. They are very good at what they do. We must become more focused in our continued presentation of the flowchart. The flowchart is the absolute missing link in proving the existence of a coordinated research program to develop a cancer virus that depletes the immune system. New diseases do not create old illnesses.

This compilation of court documents and correspondence is the true effort of one man’s achievement in solving the mystery of the origin of AIDS. We have found the origin of AIDS, it is us.

NATWAR GANDHI AND THE LOTTERY SCAM

Back in 2000, after some delay, the District of Columibia Lottery & Charitable Games Commission (DCLC) announced that the proceeds of the December 11, 1999 Powerball Game would be awarded to the winner by way of a "trustee".  The laws of the the DCLC required that the winner of any powerball game had to be made visible to the public and consent to being photographed; a condition for actually acquiring the winning proceeds.  This apparenty did not occur. 
Instead, the DCLC simply mashed off a couple of cheques valuing close to $24.5 Million to an attorney by the name of H. Dean Bouland under this conjured "trust" -- trouble is, the only way the DCLC could have given that kind of money to a trust is if they created the trust, by changing rules.
Can this be done without Congressional or DC Council's oversight?
What about without Natwar Gandhi's oversight.
Remember when the Tax Assessment Office scandal broke at $21 Million.  A lot of people were asking just what could you do with thatn kind of money?
 Well  now I ask, what about $24.5 Million.
 
The issues regarding Natwar Gandhi are not new to us.  In fact they are related directly to our quest to recover this lost property, a project that we have been working on for many years now.   Many consider our endeavor in this regard to be a tall order, perhaps even a dashing hope.  We take a far more optimistic viewpoint.   Gandhi's image did not begin  to tank until our latest filings on October 1, 2007.  What happens after that appears to be nothing short of a massive government spin on the issue (and others like it).   
After all, what better way to recover the confidence invested into the Bond (Natwar Gandhi), than to cover up all the evidence by privatizing all the tongues that had too much access to the dirty details - by forcing them to resign?

 For Those Who Have Wondered – The Value of Information
 
Here is a little insight into the cost of information.  
 
A certain organization will be providing a conference on November 14th, 2007 addressing such things as monetary exchange rates and other "regimes".   Speakers will include Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, and other leaders in the field. 
 
According to their invitaton to us, the admission fee per head is $300.00.   For the average person, their question as to whether this fee is worth it is probably what makes them remain average people. For us, that is a no-brainer. 
 
If you have read some of the articles on our Website, and consider the vast amount of information flowing about, then more like likely than not, you may also consider that the value of such information and available reports of witnesses who have been there is also a no-brainer.   We will probably miss this meeting because we do not have the resources to pay the admission fee.  Our attendance would not be to hub-nub with the high and mighty,   but to gain the inside scoop of where the lines may fall so that you can aviate the future of things like – say – your retirement plans, on an even keel.  
 
It is not probable that any high end text book will be able to keep you abreast of such issues as those who will have been able to gain from this meeting.   We should not take lightly then, our access to information based upon the dedication of INTELLEXAE to attend to such affairs.  Know that any day, access to the inside scoop can by substantially cut off without notice.   It pays therefore to have a ready agent who can pay attention to matters such as this, because where INTELLEXAE seeks to insert itself is at the junction between information and power, for the benefit of you.

ENERGY AND FUELS - The Value of Aluminum
The following article is taken from the website: http://www.aluminum.org/.  It is reproduced here without permission, but then perhaps Alcoa has been doing things with Aluminum without our knowledge for too long.  Thus it is high time for the people of the south to become aware of the feasable prospects of their industrial assets, so that they too can take their rightful place in the decision making, profiteering, and conservation; in effect the policy and managment, and such, in relation to thier assets.  It is not sufficient to remain comfortable being classified as the patients of Alcoa's good-will psycho-social programs.

* The Governments of Jamaica, CARICOM in general, Brazil and West africa need to ask themselves if they are getting their moneys' worth for this higly prized reclycable mineral;
* The People of Jamaica need to ask themselves if they have enough land to destroy in order to engage this mining business on behalf of foreing companies that do not care for their homeland;

* The education ministers in these aluminum producing nations need to ask if their young minds are being properly taught not just the basics of math and science, but how to industrialize in a conservative manner to their benefit and the benefit ot the homelands, and how

to manage their homeland resources so that they are not being exploited by others.

* Those who care for 'our country' need to ask, where will it be in 25 to 50 years - at the forefront of the industrialized and leading nations holding authority over our natural power, or in the bilges of and recesses of the socio economic powerhouses, still paying amage and tribut to institutions like the World Bank.

To Jamaica, we may only suggest that little island keeps mining bauxite to the eventual peril of its tourist and agricultural industries.  Perhaps their well educated students can come up with an answer as to how to re-invigorat the spoiled lands.

Aluminum Air Fuel Cell Becoming Commercially Viable

While aluminum 's attributes in saving energy are highly publicized, perhaps less well known is the material's potential role in generating energy. Developments started over 25 years ago on an aluminum-air fuel cell are now beginning to see commercial promise in a range of applications from cell phones to PCs to electric vehicles. How does the aluminum-air fuel cell work? What advantages does it have over conventional batteries and portable power sources? Who is producing these products? Read further to learn more.

The Technology
The aluminum-air fuel cell consists of an aluminum alloy anode, placed in a saline or alkaline electrolyte, which reacts with oxygen from the air or another source. Electricity is produced as the aluminum oxidizes. Physically, a typical cell consists of aluminum alloy plates and a gas diffusion cathode coupled by an electrolyte. When the aluminum alloy is consumed during the electrochemical reaction, a new plate is inserted and the reaction continues. The fuel cell is actually part battery, part fuel cell. Like a battery, the fuel is consumed within the cell. Like a fuel cell, the oxidant, in this case oxygen, is stored outside the cell and provided to the cathode as required

Aluminum Anodes
As you might expect, there are some finer points to the process of electricity generation that have needed to be addressed in order for the aluminum-air fuel cell to move from laboratory curiosity to commercial product.

One aspect was related to the aluminum anodes. By nature, aluminum is corrosion resistant, as a result of the adherent aluminum oxide film that forms naturally on its surface. For use in the fuel cell, however, the material needed to be electrochemically active in the presence of the electrolyte. This has been accomplished through alloying the aluminum with tin as well as other proprietary elements.

On the cathode side, delivering the oxygen into the cell has been accomplished through improvements in gas diffusion cathodes, which employ high molecular weight polymers and advanced membrane technology

Another issue was the formation of aluminum hydroxide as a by-product of the reaction, which would form as a gel-like substance on the anode and reduce the reaction rate. Developments here involve the addition of unique additives to the electrolyte that cause the aluminum hydroxide to form in crystalline powdered form, which fall to the bottom of the cell leaving the reaction surface on the anode clear and active.

Military Applications
The development work on metal-air fuel cells in general and the aluminum-air system in particular dates back some 25 years. The driving force was the need for reliable, lightweight power sources for military and space applications, where the weight or limited shelf life of traditional batteries would be unacceptable. Aluminum was a desirable choice for the metal "fuel" since it was lightweight, has a very high energy density, and is recyclable. As a result, successful although expensive fuel cells were designed and constructed. Power system for underwater exploration were developed which delivered ten times more power than the nickel-cadmium batteries it replaced, and also substantially reduced the time taken to recharge a vehicle. Another high performance application was for the Special Forces, in which the battery with a shelf life of greater than 10 years is wrapped in a watertight wrap for shipment and storage, and then activated by the addition of water when the power is required. A company called Fuel Cell Technologies Ltd. in Canada supplied these applications.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles
Today there is an interest in lightweight fuel cells for a range of applications. Probably the one that has garnered the most recent attention is in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). According to experts, HEVs will start creeping into the US market (in fact a few are already here) because they use fewer batteries than electric vehicles, recharge themselves on the road, are much friendlier to the environment, and are more fuel efficient than conventional gasoline-powered cars and trucks.

While some of the HEVs will use nickel metal hydride, with weight as well as range being key considerations, a number of other concepts are under consideration as well, including the aluminum-air fuel cell. One company, Alupower Inc. (acquired from Alcan by ENER-TEK in 1994), reports that aluminum -air fuel cells can extend the range of an electric van from 75 km using lead-acid batteries to 300 km. They note that the fuel cells are over seven times more energy dense by weight and occupy less than one-seventh of the space of commercial lead-acid batteries. They are however on the order of ten times more expensive, so the cost-benefit trade-off is important. Watch this area for continuing developments.

Portable Power
Another promising area of application is in supplying portable power for cellular phones and laptop computers, in what has been described as "personal electricity". The aluminum-air fuel cell is said to be up to 75 times more energy dense than lithium-ion fuel cells. In these applications, light weight as well as small package size is important.

One company, Aluminum-Power, Inc., has been focusing their efforts on producing small aluminum-air cells for cellular phones. The company has announced a product that provides adequate power for eight hours of talk time and nearly six days of standby power using an aluminum-air fuel cell they have developed.

The company projects that with optimization they will have a product enabling 25 hours of talk time and 240 hours of stand-by power.

Key to their technology is a sealed "quick-change" cartridge containing the aluminum anode. Once the cartridge is used, it will be able to be recycled curbside with aluminum cans. The planned arrival in 2004 of the third generation (3G) cell phone technology, which is expected to require even more portable power, is expected to be the large growth market for these products.

Due to the scaleable nature of the technology, it can also be used in other larger-scale applications. Aluminum-air fuel cells are expected to find a market among telecommunications and Internet service providers that need fail-safe backup electricity, with computer chip makers that can't tolerate power outages, at banks to keep ATM systems running, and in supermarkets to protect perishables.

Other potential applications include home power in regions where high power costs or the absence of a power grid prevents the use of electricity as well as fuel for portable generators, to replace diesel generation with a pollution-free alternative. Portable power systems are a particular focus of a company called Voltek, which manufactures a product called " Fuel Pak" that is designed for emergency power, marine, and camping applications as well as for forklift trucks.

Costs?
What are we talking about dollar-wise? The market for fuel cells in the applications discussed above is growing rapidly. A 1998 report by BCC, Inc. pegs the estimated size of the fuel cell market at $1.3 billion by 2003, growing at a rate of nearly 30% per year. Of this, BCC estimated that the aluminum-air fuel cell market was on the order of $2 million in 1998 and would grow to $25 million by 2003. Other more recent estimates suggest that the market is currently on the order of $1 billion and will grow to $10 billion in the near future, suggesting a more rapid expansion than predicted even by the BCC study.

HEALTHCARE - What Makes Us Sick!

 

There has been discussion in the ambient community recently regarding issues surrounding health care.  This issue is not of significant interest to us, however as people we have met have requested that we pay some attention to the issue, we kept our ears open. 

 

Today (5 Nov 2007), several organizations around the District of Columbia held meetings and news conferences regarding health care.  The United Health Foundation (UHF) held its press conference at the National Press Club.  Among the speakers were, Dr. Georges Benjamin, the Executive Director of the American Public Health Association, Mr. John Clymer, President of Partnership for Prevention, and Dr. Reed Tuckson, a Board Member of the UHF. 

 

The UHF apparently attempted to shed equitable light on issues related to health care.  The news conference was not very long and not very political per say. The general prognosis for the United States is that health care in this country in on the decline.  The UHP presented a very comprehensive report titled “A Call to Action for People & Their Communities” which ranked each state in the Union with regard to their health care administration and effects.  The report presented measurements of personal behaviors, community environment, public & health policies, and clinical care for each state and the District of Columbia, however the District of Columbia was not ranking among the states, because according to Dr. Tuckson in was a small urban community.

 

The states with the best overall health care policies and effects were Vermont, Minnesota, Hawaii, New Hampshir, and Connecticut.  The states with the worst were Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, however Dr. Tuckson indicated that Louisiana made great strides to increase its health care performance despite disruptions relating from the Katrina affair.  He did stress that in many of these southern states the issue was one of behaviour – obesity related to diet.  This, Dr. Tuckson indicated, required a call to action to change public attitudes.
